An 1881 triangulation sketch from the US Coast and Geodetic Survey, covering the coast from New York City to Point Judith. The sheet shows Long Island, Long Island Sound, and the Connecticut shore, with a web of survey lines drawn between hundreds of numbered stations on hilltops, church steeples, and lighthouses. Heavier lines mark the primary stations, lighter lines mark the secondary ones, and an inset at the top covers the area around Hartford. The Survey used these station networks to fix exact positions along the coast, and every navigation chart of the region was built on measurements like these. Unearthed from the NOAA archives and restored by Coast & Horizon's cartographers, meticulously color-corrected. Printed on museum-quality matte paper, 250 gsm archival stock.
