The sheet shows Barnegat Bay behind the barrier beach, the mouth of Toms River, and thousands of depth soundings across the Atlantic approaches, with three compass roses offshore. Along the left margin are tables of the lighthouses, beacons, buoys, and tides for this stretch of coast, and a note warns that the bar at Barnegat Inlet is subject to frequent changes. Charts like this were issued for vessels working the approaches to New York Harbor. Unearthed from the NOAA archives and restored by Coast & Horizon's cartographers, meticulously color-corrected.
